Provider Network: for outstanding provider demonstrating
excellence and leadership in quality care.
Southwest Open School: for outstanding
school-based health center, leading the community in responding to
the health care needs of adolescents. CASBHC also recognizes staff
members Shannon Wells, Sherrod Beall, and Dianne Detloff for their
contribution to the SBHC located in Cortez, CO.
Senator Betty Boyd, Representative Andrew
Kerr, and Senator Abel Tapia: for their leadership role in the
passage of legislation for funding School-Based Health Centers and
their contribution to the well-being of Colorado’s children.

their recent "Hero in Health" Award and for 27 years serving the
uninsured.

Environment: for 20 years of exceptional leadership in Colorado,
as well as nationally in school-based health care.

Nina McNeil, Adams City Middle School SBHC: for
outstanding primary care provider, serving the Commerce City
Community Health Services-sponsored SBHC since December 1982.
Beverly Samek, Director of Coordinated School Health Programs
for Pueblo School District 60: for outstanding service in the
category of Other School Staff. Ms. Samek has sponsored and
facilitated numerous school health service programs for the Pueblo
area.
Michelle Willix and Tamera Ford, Lake Middle School
mental health counselors: for development of outstanding Mental
Health Program. Their program, "A Day of Respect and Responsibility"
addresses the issue of bullying and sexual harassment in schools.
Teresa Saiz, Denver School-Based Health Centers: for
outstanding Support Staff. As a former SBHC health care technician,
Teresa excels as a mentor and advocate for SBHC staff, utilizing her
insight to the improve the operational efficiency of the SBHCs.
Cathy Zirkelbach, Helen Ricles, Shari Fessler, Julie
Degenstein: for outstanding School Health Program. Individually
and as a group, they have been actively involved in pediatric
asthma.

development of an effective asthma management strategy, serving over
50 North High students.
Dianne Miller, volunteer at Centennial High
School SBHC (Fort Collins): for outstanding community leadership
and contribution.
Cynthia Farrar, Health Education Coordinator with
the Metropolitan Community Provider Network: for outstanding
individual leadership exhibited through her service at Stein
Elementary and Eiber Elementary
