What is a School-Based Health Center?

A school-based health center (SBHC) is a health care facility located inside a school or on school grounds. It is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of medical and behavioral health specialists, and sometimes dental professionals, health educators and/or health insurance enrollment specialists.

School-Based Health Centers improve health and educational outcomes.

SBHCs serve students whose access to care is limited. Services are designed to identify problems early, provide continuity of care, and improve academic participation.
